And for the non-writers who follow me/pay attention to these things... what makes you do your art?

I realize that this is kind of a shallow question, but I often question whether or not I actually like writing. Sometimes I'm like "hell yes" and other times I'm like "...meh." I've been exploring this question for several years now... still no conclusions. This journal is a half-butt attempt to start yet another conversation about it. So I guess we'll see what happens!

With the New Year underway I thought it best to write some updates! 2015 was a year of many, many new things and paradigm shifts for me. In May I was in Texas for a wedding and actually danced (that's new) at a venue that had a saddle disco ball (also new to me...). I worked for three months at a small startup video production company and basically got super inspired and pumped studying productivity and entrepreneurs and learned how to focus my goaols.

At the very END of the year... (yesterday)... I got a fancy-schmancy new haircut... and accepted an offer for a full time video editing position! Plans for 2016, then, include finding a nice apartment (and I think I've got some good possibilities lined up from the Google).

2015 was about good thinking and habits. I want 2016 to be continuing these good things and additionally, I make to MAKE MORE STUFF!

Over and out!

P.S. Oh I also graduated from college. It's a thing!

There comes a point in writing any novel where you have an existential crisis, and I've had mine! It's that string of questions something along the lines of "why are you doing this? does it matter? will anyone read it? do you even have a target audience?"

I'm also suffering from the parallel condition of working 40 hrs a week (which is much more work than just being in school) and wanting to lie down and "zzz" all the time.

I also have this very strong feeling that the actual story itself is moving too slowly. I think it's the difference between reading speed and writing speed. Though I have been using voice-to-text with good results, which is weird because I never thought that would help me--I thought it would throw off my groove.

So anyway... the weekend will be a good time to catch up with it again and next week will be calmer so perhaps I will be able to write a few words without falling asleep!

It Begins

So I'm starting my WinBreWriMo! That's my stupid abbreviation for Winter Break Writing Month :bucktooth:. It entertains me, so yeah!

I've been doing a lot of graphic design lately, for my Myers Briggs tumblr blog. On that note I'm actually thinking about running a kickstarter to fund my Adobe subscription (it's $360 a year, $30 a month) until I'm out of school and have a "real job."

I started the novel today and so far there's 1,674 words. I'm using illuminara 's novel tracker for it:

Thus far I'm feeling very good about it; not stressed. I think something that helped me was this advice I read where if you don't know the name for something or what to put, you have a special word that you insert. For example, Elephant. Then later during editing you can search for the "elephants" and then change them to whatever you prefer. Thus far I've only had to do that with a character name; I forgot I needed a name for her :bucktooth:

That's all for now!

I'm thinking about writing a novel over my winter break, which is Dec 12-Jan 12. Why not? Except the only problem is I don't remember how to plan a novel. It's been awhile! Last time I wrote a novel was only partial and was two summers ago! Gotta figure these things out.
